Here is another number-plate game. Each player in turn reads out the letters on passing number plates. Every time you spot one which spells a three-letter word such as BUT or HAM or APE you write it down. For each word, you score five points.

The second stage is much more difficult. The players go on looking for words, but try to find ones which can be added to those already seen to form a six-letter word. So, if you've got KIT and then see TEN, the result is KITTEN. CAR and PET make CARPET, GEN and TRY make GENTRY, and so on. Six-letter words score fifteen points each (as well as scoring five points each separately, of course).

You can play this for a set length of time and see who scores the most. Or you can see who reaches 50 points first.
