Writing Games

This is a very old game, invented at least three centuries ago. It is a backwards way of writing verse that is to say, instead of starting with a line and ending with a rhyme, you start with a rhyme and end with a line.

One player chooses two sets of words which rhyme 'test' and 'best', for example, and 'gun' and 'bun'. The second player has to make up a four-line verse, each line ending with one of the words. Thus he might, after a lot of head-scratching, come up with something like this:

At shooting he said he was best, And so we put it to the test, But when I went to lift the gun I slipped and fell on a stale bun.

Of course, the more outlandish the words chosen, the sillier the poem will have to be!
